Press release from Hotel Koldingfjord
Hotel Koldingfjord expands capacity and gives new life to historic buildings
Two properties that previously housed the Danish Nursing History Museum are now to be converted into hotel apartments and rooms. 'We are doing this with full respect for the history of the place,' assures the director.
The two historic properties Granly and Fjordglimt located at Hotel Koldingfjord will be converted into 18 hotel apartments and rooms over the coming year, expanding the hotel's capacity to 150 rooms.
The properties, which have formed the framework for the Danish Nursing History Museum since 1999, which closed at the beginning of 2025, will be emptied during the year, after which the renovation and conversion to hotel operations will begin.
– The two buildings are part of the overall building complex that we are located in at Hotel Koldingfjord, and therefore it is natural that we take over the operation after the museum closes. We do so with full respect for the history of the place and the museum's many good years, and we want to preserve some of the museum's influences in the interior design, which can continue to help tell the story of the place, says Peder J. Madsen, director of Hotel Koldingfjord.
Ready for guests next summer
The two buildings are Fjordglimt, built in 1917 as an additional pavilion for children suffering from tuberculosis, and Granly, built in 1933 for the same purpose. The latter has housed the museum's magazines and archives, while Fjordglimt has been the primary museum. Both locations will now help expand the hotel's capacity and are expected to be ready for the first guests in late summer 2026.
– The plan is that we will start renovating in 2026. We would like to give the museum plenty of time to close down before we can welcome the first guests to the buildings at the end of summer next year, says Peder J. Madsen.
The project is being developed in collaboration with PKA Properties and with AART Architects as advisors, and 10 hotel apartments and 10 double rooms will be furnished.
– The hotel apartments will have small kitchens, and several of them will have separate south-facing terraces in the middle of the peace forest and with direct views of Kolding Fjord. It will be a place where you can really find peace and quiet for reflection and contemplation, says Peder J. Madsen.
The interior design will follow the same stylistic line of Scandinavian furniture design that Hotel Koldingfjord is known for.
