This is how we contribute to a slightly better world
Hotel Koldingfjord is located in the middle of Denmark's most beautiful nature. The proximity to nature and our daily joy in the surroundings have given us a special awareness of taking care of the environment and ensuring that the climate and nature are affected as little as possible by running a large hotel in such a fantastic setting.
We work in a number of areas to ensure that future generations also have a healthy, clean and just world to live in.
UN GLOBAL GOALS:
Working with the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals is an important part of everyday life at Hotel Koldingfjord. We review workflows, procedures and purchases so that we can get as close as possible to our goal - to contribute to a better world for future generations. All employees at the hotel have been trained in working with the Sustainable Development Goals. The staff has jointly adopted a number of actions that support the four Sustainable Development Goals, which we have a particular focus on:
- Goal 3: Health and well-being
- Goal 4: Quality education
- Goal 7: Sustainable energy
- Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production
The work on the SDGs is continuously evaluated and measured, so we ensure that our actions help create a slightly better world.

ECOLOGY:
Organic is good for the environment and animal welfare. That's why organic products are increasingly appearing on our menu. We offer organic coffee, and our house wines are organic.
Hotel Koldingfjord is affiliated with the Green Key eco-label. This means that at least 25% of our food and beverages are organic.
But we are not done yet. In the coming time, we will replace a number of conventionally grown products with organic products from local producers.
UN GLOBAL COMPACT:
Hotel Koldingfjord is one of very few Danish hotels to have joined the UN Global Compact Network Denmark.
The UN Global Compact's mission is to mobilize a global movement of businesses to create a better world. This means that Hotel Koldingfjord has committed to working according to the network's 10 principles, which focus on the environment, labor rights, human rights and anti-corruption.

THE GREEN KEY:
Hotel Koldingfjord is affiliated with the environmental label The Green Key, which sets a wide range of standards for the hotel's environmental operations and impact on the surrounding community.
The hotel's energy consumption is monitored month by month to ensure optimal utilization - and to reduce energy consumption where it does not affect the comfort of guests. Our focus on resources has meant that over a number of years we have been able to reduce the hotel's consumption of electricity, water and heating measured per guest. This is good for the environment and for the hotel's finances.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY ELECTRICITY:
In the coming years, all electricity at Hotel Koldingfjord will be produced by Danish wind turbines. The green electricity costs a little more. In return, Energi Danmark guarantees that the electricity in the switches at the hotel is green. We think that is common sense.

HOTEL KOLDINGFJORD REPLACES WINDOWS IN MAIN BUILDING AND PALACES:
Background
The main building and mansions at Hotel Koldingfjord are equipped with the original windows from 1909, which is why there is a great need for replacement in terms of energy, indoor climate and maintenance.
For many years, many resources have been spent on maintaining windows in the 3 buildings, however, in recent years, an accelerating degradation has been observed, which annually results in large financial expenses for partial carpentry and painting maintenance of the woodwork of the windows, as well as construction and operational challenges in relation to the hotel.
The buildings appear on all facades with the original small-barred window sections with single-layer glass - however, fitted with internal extension frames carried out in connection with the major conversion into a hotel in 1989.
The 3 buildings have a high conservation value, Conservation Value 2, cf. the Danish Agency for Palaces and Culture's atlas of listed and conservation-worthy buildings, which is of course incorporated into assessments and plans for replacing windows.
There is a great deal of focus on the buildings' originality, visual appearance and cultural-historical status.
Energy conditions
In terms of energy, a significant potential for savings is expected by installing highly insulating type A windows. Hotel Koldingfjord is heated with district heating.
The new windows
Based on the property's history and preservation-worthy status, the windows are being replaced with heartwood windows with coupled frames from the Danish window manufacturer, Frovin. The windows are being made with special respect for the buildings' facade expression.
The windows are made in the same style, bay and mullion division, and with putty rebates, fittings, and appearance as existing windows - in addition, the exterior frames are provided with single-layer drawn glass, so that the uneven expression on existing glass surfaces is preserved.
The U-value of coupled windows is between 0,82 – 0,94 W/m2*K and therefore meets the strict energy requirements for type A windows in the building regulations BR18.
The new windows will be manufactured after careful registration and measurements on site and based on existing facade drawings.
Rebuild
Hotel Koldingfjord has entered into a collaboration with Genbyg so that the wood and glass from the old windows that are not damaged are reused in new construction and do not go to waste.
Approval from Kolding Municipality
Kolding Municipality has, by letter dated January 15, 2024, granted permission for the windows to be replaced.
Other renovations at Hotel Koldingfjord
In recent years, various major and minor renovation projects have been carried out at Hotel Koldingfjord, such as replacing the roof on the main building, mansions and Louisehøj in 2018-2020, renovating bathrooms, and expanding conference rooms.
All renovations and expansions have been carried out in close dialogue with Kolding Municipality's Urban and Development Department and of course always with the necessary permits.
