Haraldskær Manor, which today houses a hotel and restaurant, is beautifully situated in Vejle Ådal. The old manor hides an exciting and dramatic history.

In the middle of Vejle Ådal, close to Skibet, lies Haraldskær Hovedgård in hilly terrain created during the ice age. Haraldskær Hovedgård, houses the hotel Haraldskær Sinatur Hotel & Conference but has a history dating back to the 1400th century. There are also many beautiful nature routes on foot and by bike in the area.

History

The main farm is located on an old rampart site but was first mentioned in 1434, where the owner was named Niels Friis. Haraldskær was in the Friis family until 1601. They were responsible for, among other things, the construction of the current main building, which dates from 1536. The main building has since burned down and been rebuilt several times. The last member of the Friis family, Albert Friis, was a councillor and sheriff of Riberhus. In 1590, he built the current main wing to the west, which rises in two stories above a vaulted basement. To the east, he had a square stair tower built with a special descent to the basement. After his death, Haraldskær was owned by a number of distinguished families.

In 1912, an additional wing was built, so that Haraldskær also had a knight's hall. In 1916, Haraldskær was purchased by manufacturer CM Hess in Vejle, who restored the main wing and rebuilt the dilapidated side buildings.

Since 1969, the main building and 30 acres of land have been run by the Danish Teachers' Association, which runs a conference center on site. Throughout the 1970s, the listed main building was carefully modernized and a guest wing was added. The breeding buildings and 270 acres of land are owned by Vejle Municipality.

Haraldskær still holds many stories from the past. The large post that forms the supporting structure in the old stair tower is said to have originally come from an old ship's mast. Back then, you could sail all the way to Haraldskær along Vejle Å. The main building's old clock, which after considerable effort runs fairly accurately, dates from 1763. And of course, Haraldskær also has its own ghost. The story goes that the ghost of a young woman returns because of unrequited love. She is said to return from Skibet Kirke, through the old fireplace room and down to Vejle Å.

Neighboring Haraldskær are the ruins of the old manor mill, Kvak Mølle, and Skibet Kirke. The church was built between 1125 and 1150, and belonged to Haraldskær until about 1936. Frådstenkirken contains, among other things, some very beautiful frescoes from the 1200th century.
